Rebel Netters Open Regional Play

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV's lone doubles team won its first match on Wednesday to stay alive at the 2025 ITA Mountain Region Men's Tennis Championships on campus at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

Representatives from 16 schools are on hand for the event, which runs through Monday.

Rebels Vitaliy Horovoy and Joel Gibson needed a tiebreaker to advance to the Round of 32, downing Eliot Nobel and Jakub Medved of Utah State, 8-7 (5). They will now face 13th-seeded Nishant Dabas and Dario Ciobotaru of New Mexico on Thursday morning.

In singles play, UNLV's one rep in the qualifying stage, Roberto Hernandez, fell to New Mexico's Carl Labitzke, 6-1, 6-2. Four other Rebels will kick off play in the main draw on Thursday.

As the second qualifying tournament for the 2025 NCAA Individual Championships, the ITA Division I Regional Championships will continue over the next two weeks on college campuses across the country. With 13 regional tournaments being hosted on the men's and women's sides of play, the two singles finalists from each region (26 total) as well as the doubles champion from each region (13 total) will qualify for the NCAA Individual Championships through these Regional Championships.
