LIHUE, Hawaii (UNLVRebels.com) – After Thursday's first round, the UNLV men's golf team stands in a tie for second at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate being hosted by Hawai'i at the Ocean Course at Hokuala (Par 70, 7,098 yards).
One of just three teams on the day to record a par-or-better scorecard, the Rebels joined Illinois in shooting an even-par 280. They both are within seven shots of day-one leader Utah, which shot a 7-under 273.
Four players ended up in the top 25 for the Scarlet & Gray through 18 holes, including junior
Wyatt Plattner in 11th at 1-under 69, seniors
Caden Fioroni (E) and
Trevor Lewis (E) in a tie for 15th and sophomore
Zach Little (+1) in a tie for 24th. Behind them in the Rebel lineup is senior
Ben Sawaia with a 2-over 72 in a tie for 37th, followed by junior
Brett Sawaia (+6) in a tie for 76th competing as an individual.
Atop the individual leaderboard, the Illini's Jackson Buchanan and Missouri's Brock Snyder are tied after they both shot a 4-under 66.
