LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's tennis team continued its strong open to the dual season by making quick work of Utah Tech, 7-0, on Saturday morning at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
 
The Rebels improved to 5-0 while the Trailblazers, who are coached by former UNLV men's tennis player Eric Pelton, fell to 0-6.
 
The hosts swept in doubles to earn a 1-0 lead. Cindy Hu and Coco Zhao improved to 13-2 this season with a 6-0 win at No. 2 – the same score that Sofiia Sokolvak and Kaho Oyama used to down their opponents at No. 3. Hanna Vinahradava and Nikol Mircheva then needed a tiebreaker to take their match at No. 1, 7-6 (7-3).  
 
In singles, five of six Rebels swept their opponents: Hu got by Mariana Zurita, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 1; Zhao doubled up Ana Sampere, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3; Mircheva downed Nutsa Tsintsadze, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 4; Oyama sprinted past Laura Coulome, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5; and Sokolvak defeated Raquel Roshak, 6-2, 6-4, on court six. The shutout was complete when Veronica Kliuch used a super-tiebreaker to down Olivia Bustos at the second spot, 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (11-9).
 
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Cindy Hu helped forge a 6-0 doubles win then flew by her opponent at the top of the singles lineup.  
 
UP NEXT: UNLV will close out the weekend by hosting Idaho State on Sunday starting with doubles play at 10 a.m. All matches at Fertitta Tennis Complex are free of charge.
