LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's tennis team remained undefeated in Mountain West play with its fifth consecutive overall victory, 4-0 over New Mexico on a hot and sunny Sunday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels improved to 12-3 and 3-0 in the MW while the Lobos fell to 8-9 and 2-2 in league action.
Doubles went UNLV's way thanks to the bottom two courts for the second straight outing. After the Lobos won at the top,
Kaho Oyama and
Sofiia Sokolvak won 6-4 at No. 3 and
Cindy Hu and
Coco Zhao emerged 7-5 at the second position.
UNLV would take four of six first sets in singles play and close out three of them in quick fashion to end things. Veronika Kliutch downed Sarah O'Connor, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 2; Zhao eased past Rebekkah Gaines, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3; and
Nikol Mircheva swept Maria Matsoukatidi, 6-1, 6-3, on court four.
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Coco Zhao, who now ranks fifth in program history with 87 wins, helped pull out the doubles point along with partner
Cindy Hu and then rolled in singles play.
UP NEXT: UNLV, tied for first place in the conference, hits the road for a pair of Mountain West matches along the Front Range, starting with Colorado State on Friday.
