LAS VEGAS (UNLVrebels.com) – The UNLV baseball team was awarded two of the three Mountain West weekly honors to
Carson Lane (Pitcher) and
Cooper Sheff (Freshman), the league announced earlier on Monday. The awards now total the Hustlin' Rebel conference weekly honors to three this season, Lane earning his first and Sheff collecting his second.
The Hustlin' Rebels (13-10, 2-4 MW) claimed the season series over defending Mountain West Tournament champions Fresno State, winning two out of the three games last weekend. UNLV was able to hold the Bulldogs to only one run in their two win over them, the offense scoring 20 runs total in the three games.
Carson Lane collected his first career honor after pitching eight shutout innings in the 9-0 victory over the Bulldogs, a career high for the sophomore en route to the decision. His strong performance not only helped him collect the win but also lead UNLV to their first combined no-hitter since 2003. Lane tossed nine strikeouts in the historic game, pitching two innings where he stuck out multiple batters in a single frame. In his first ever triple-digit pitch count (108), the Huntington Beach, Calif., native only allowed three walks and didn't give up a single wild pitch during his tenure.
Cooper Sheff earns his second MW Freshman of the Week honor this season after one of his most productive weeks in the second slot of the Hustlin' Rebel lineup, batting .467 in 15 at bats. The Las Vegas native tallied seven hits during the four-game stretch, his on-base percentage being .526 after also grabbing two walks and a hit-by-pitch. Sheff's three extra-base hits, which were all doubles, pushed his slugging percentage to .667 during the last week, hitting a double in all three games against Fresno State. The redshirt freshman totaled six runs in the last week, pushing his season total to 25 to tie the top spot in the Mountain West rankings in the statistical category.

The Hustlin' Rebels will play one more game in Las Vegas before traveling out in their next away series, playing in the annual duel against Arizona State in the Las Vegas Ballpark. That contest is set for Tuesday, March 25 with a first-pitch of 6:05 p.m. PT, fans can get tickets now for the game
