Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn To Join Men's Basketball Program

Former four-star recruit originally from Lafayette, Indiana, is transferring to the Runnin' Rebels from the University of Illinois.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's basketball program has received a signed commitment from Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn to join the Runnin' Rebels for the 2025-26 season, head coach Josh Pastner announced Sunday.

Gibbs-Lawhorn, who is a 6-foot-1-inch, 185-pound guard, originally from Lafayette, Indiana, is transferring to UNLV from the University of Illinois where he played as a freshman and sophomore during the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons, respectively.

A four-star recruit out of high school, he was ranked No. 108 by Rivals150, No. 119 by On3 Industry, No. 134 by 247Sports Composite, No. 143 by Top247 and No. 151 by On3 in the class of 2023. He finished his high school career at Word of God Christian Academy in North Carolina and played in Overtime Elite. He also attended Montverde Academy and Real Salt Lake Academy after beginning his prep career at McCutcheon High School.

"Dravyn is an exceptional talent with a unique blend of skill and athleticism that will make an immediate impact on our program," Pastner said. "His ability to create his own shot and play unselfishly will elevate our offensive dynamics. Beyond his talent, Dravyn's work ethic and character align perfectly with our Runnin' Rebel values. We are thrilled to welcome him to the Runnin' Rebel family and can't wait to see him flourish here at UNLV."

This past season at Illinois as a sophomore, Gibbs-Lawhorn played in all 35 games, making two starts. He averaged 5.9 points and 1.6 rebounds per game, tallying double figures in scoring nine times, with notable performances including a team-high 17 points and a career-high five assists against then-No. 11 Wisconsin, as well as an eight-point outing at then-No. 3 Duke. He shot 68.4% on 2-point attempts during the season (52 of 76).

In his first career start, he scored 10 points in a victory against Ohio State and he scored a career-high 21 points in the season opener against Eastern Illinois. As a freshman in 2023-24, he appeared in 28 games and scored a then-career-high 18 points in his debut, also against Eastern Illinois.

Gibbs-Lawhorn joins Mason Abittan, Tyrin Jones and Emmanuel Stphen as incoming players to the Runnin' Rebel program for the 2025-26 season. James Evans Jr. and Jacob Bannarbie have also committed to return to the program from last season's roster.
