PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's golf team concluded its spring opener Tuesday at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge hosted by Ohio State at Palos Verdes Golf Club (Par 71, 6,017 yards).
REBEL ROUNDUP: Junior
Zi Yu Foong (+6) paced all Rebels with a 27th-place finish. Following Foong, sophomore
Amber Chen (+8) gave the Scarlet & Gray its third even-par 71 scorecard of the week in the final round as she moved up eight spots for a 41st-place finish. Completing the lineup were freshman
Demi Du (+15) in 72nd, freshman
Lana Yamagata (+17) in 76th and junior
Jane Huang (+21) in 81st place.
CHAMPIONS: Taking the team crown, UCLA led throughout the 54-hole event and ended with an 8-under 844. Sharing individual medalist honors, the Bruins' Jeonghyun Lee and Texas' Farah O'Keefe both shot 5-under 208 for the tournament.
Going against several nationally top-25 ranked teams, the Scarlet & Gray (+39) took 14th place. Among the stacked squads competing in the 16-team field were No. 2 USC, No. 3 Oregon, No. 6 Florida, No. 7 Texas A&M, No. 9 Pepperdine, No. 11 Texas, No. 13 Arizona State, No. 18 South Carolina and No. 23 UCLA.
UP NEXT: The Rebels will compete again in just under three weeks at Wisconsin's Westbrook Invitational scheduled to take place from Sunday-Monday, Feb. 22-23.
