Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn And Tyrin Jones Receive All-Mountain West Honors

Junior guard earned first-team all-conference and Newcomer of the Year, while freshman forward is selected to all-defensive team and honorable mention All-MW.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV junior guard Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn and freshman forward Tyrin Jones have received All-Mountain West honors for the 2025-26 season, the conference announced Tuesday. The awards were voted on by the league's head coaches and select media.

Gibbs-Lawhorn was named the Newcomer of the Year and received first-team All-MW recognition, while Jones was selected to the all-defensive team and earned honorable mention All-MW.

Gibbs-Lawhorn's Newcomer of the Year award is only the second in UNLV's Mountain West history and its first since Mike Moser earned the same recognition in 2012. In addition, Gibbs-Lawhorn is UNLV's first first-team recipient since Bryce Hamilton in 2022. Jones is UNLV's first all-defensive team member since Luis Rodriguez in 2024.

Gibbs-Lawhorn, who transferred to UNLV from Illinois before this season, led the Mountain West in scoring averaging 23.6 points per game (in conference-only games). He also ranked first in 3-point field-goal percentage at 47.7%, first in 3-pointers made per game at 3.6, second in field-goal percentage at 53.5%, sixth in free-throw percentage at 84.4%, and sixth in steals at 1.6 spg. He was third in minutes played per game at 35.7.

He also had the two highest scoring games of the season in the Mountain West (conference-only games) with a career-high 42 points in an overtime win vs. UNR on Feb. 28 and 36 in an overtime win against Boise State on Feb. 13. 

Gibbs-Lawhorn, who won the Mountain West's Player of the Week award three times this season, started all 20 of UNLV's league games. He scored in double figures in all except one, registering 20 or more points in 14 games and 30 or more in six contests. He had 30 or more in five of the last seven games.

Jones averaged 13.2 points per game during conference play and led the league in field-goal percentage at 60.3%. He also led the league in blocks with 2.0 per contest. He was named the MW Freshman of the Week on two occasions, including this past week.

Jones had two games in conference action where he was perfect from the field, 7 of 7 in a win vs. Fresno State on Dec. 20 and 5 of 5 in a victory at Air Force on Feb. 21. He made 10 starts in 17 conference games played, scoring in double figures in 14 games, including in each of the last eight. He scored 20 or more three times, inclduing a career-high 22 at San Diego State on Friday.

UNLV, which has won six of its last nine games, will face Wyoming in the first round of the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Men's Basketball Championship on Wednesday, March 11, at 12 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at TheMW.com.
