LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV's Tyrin Jones was named the Old Trapper Mountain West Men's Basketball Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Jones helped UNLV to a 1-1 week during the final two games of the regular season last week with averages of 19.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. He shot 70.8% from the field (17 of 24), while also averaging 2.0 blocks and 2.0 assists per game.

The Las Vegas native, who attended Layton Christian Academy in Utah, scored 17 points on 8 of 10 shooting in UNLV's 92-65 blowout of regular-season Mountain West champion Utah State last Tuesday at home. He also had four rebounds, three assists, and a blocked shot.

Jones followed with a career-high 22 points in an 89-86 road loss at San Diego State Friday night in the regular-season finale. In that game, he was 9 of 14 from the field, with six rebounds, three blocks, and an assist.

This was the second Mountain West weekly honor for Jones. In all, UNLV received weekly honors five times this season as Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn was selected as the league's Player of the Week on three occasions.
