COLORADO SPRINGS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's tennis team lost the doubles point for the first time this season but roared back in singles to down Air Force 4-1 Sunday on the base at the Cadet East Gym.
 
The Rebels, who just won at New Mexico on Friday, improved to 9-2 and 2-0 in the Mountain West while the Falcons fell to 4-10 and 1-1 in league play.
 
Competing indoors for the first time this season, UNLV lost the doubles point for the first time in 2026. Kaho Oyama and Sofiia Sokolvak won their match 6-4 over Maya Michalski and Jariahlyn Rhoades on court three but AFA won the other two matches to secure the 1-0 overall lead.
 
In singles play, the Rebels continued to adjust to the unfamiliar conditions and dropped the first set on two courts. Both of those matches, however, saw the Rebel rally to win.
 
Nikol Mircheva was the first off the court, downing Ariana Van Houselin, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2 while Veronika Kliuch swept Abby Cotuna, 6-4, 6-1, at the top spot. Hudson Hawkins posted the first come-from-behind win, 2-6, 6-0, 6-3, over Sofia Mavor at No. 3 before Eszter Kis-Czako overcame Yule Kang, 5-7, 6-4, 6-1, to clinch things on court four. In the other two matches, UNLV had a set in the bag and was tied early when they were abandoned.
 
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Reigning MW Player of the Week Veronika Kliuch shook off a doubles loss to win easily in singles to improve to 18-2 overall and 11-0 in dual matches as a sophomore.
 
UP NEXT: UNLV hosts a MW opponent for the first time this season on Friday vs. Colorado State starting with doubles play at 10 a.m. Admission to all matches at the Fertitta Tennis Complex is free of charge.
