LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's tennis team did not drop even a set during a 7-0 win over Seattle on a windy but sunny Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
Kicking off a full weekend of matches, the Rebels improved to 5-2 while the Redhawks, who are coached by former UNLV great Kristina Nedeltcheva Hollander, fell to 1-6.
UNLV remained undefeated in doubles this season by taking the first two completed matches.
Sofiia Sokolvak and
Kaho Oyama teamed up to down Amina Avdic and Lola Amina, 6-2, at the third spot before
Eszter Kis-Czako and
Veronika Kliuch clinched the point with a 6-3 victory over Larissa Teramura and Daria Nazakenko on court two.
In singles play,
Nikol Mircheva blanked Natalie Michta, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2; Sokolvak won 6-3, 6-0 over Amina Avic at No. 6; Kis-Czako downed Nazarenko, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4;
Hudson Hawkins defeated Taycar, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 3; Oyama finished off Teremua, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 5; and
Veronika Kliuch finished things with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Lamija Avdic at the top of the lineup to improve her singles mark to a sparkling 14-2 overall as a sophomore.
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Playing her first singles match of the dual season,
Sofiia Sokolvak won in straight sets after helping to also win the doubles point.
UP NEXT: UNLV hosts NAU on Saturday starting with doubles play at 10 a.m. Admission to all matches at Fertitta Tennis Complex is free of charge.
