LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Track & Field team will look to carry their momentum from the outdoor season into the final stretch of the academic year, competing in the Credit 1 Union Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis, Calif., hosted by Fresno State. The conference championships will kick off on Thursday, May 14 through Saturday, May 16.
Individually, the Rebels will have a majority of their roster traveling competing in multiple events over the course of the weekend. 21 members of the Scarlet & Gray are set to compete and the group will also take part in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays during the meet.
Graduate senior Victoria Perrow aims to lead UNLV in the lanes, currently ranked second in the 100m (11.32) and 12th in the 200m (23.67) heading into the weekend. She'll be backed up by a slew of sprinters, including junior KayVeonna Jackson right behind her at the seventh-place rankings in the 200m (23.59) and 10th in the 100m (11.63). Taryn Bailey will aim to jump into the conference's top-five spots as will compete in the 800m after she ran a personal-best time of 2:08.54 at the Fresno State Invite two weeks ago. Jayda Bushay, Gabby Goodgames, AnnaKay Maitland, Malika Mashack, Mikah Scott, Kaitlynn Webbe and Aly Winston round out the Rebel sprinters competing this week. Redshirt freshman Jaci Wright will look to move up in the 100m hurdles as she currently sits third with a time of 13.43.
The Rebels will aim to have a couple more members of their distance squad finish within the meet's top-eight competitors. Reagan Reed and Alana Sangprasit will both compete in the 5000m, while Kenley Gowdy and Claire Rands will participate in the 1500m, Gowdy and Rands will join Bailey in the 800m as well.Â
Sophomore Jada Lujan will represent the program as the lone Rebel in the women's high jump, while Kayli Middleton will compete in the long jump and triple jump.
The 4x100m Relay team of Perrow, Jackson, Maitland Scott are currently ranked second with a time of 44.00, while the 4x400m Relay quartet of Webbe, Kaelin Gowdy, Winston and Bushay will look for a podium finish as they sit fourth in the Mountain West with a time of 3:39.11.
UNLV's field event entries will also showcase some of the Rebels' premier talents in the throws department in
Amaya Mitchell-Howard and both
Roxene Simpson and
Sophia Clark entering into the weekend in one event apiece. Mitchell-Howard sits sixth in the hammer throw (56.37m/184' 11"), while Simpson ranks fourth in the discus throw (52.85m/173' 5"). Additionally, Clark ranks 11th in the discus throw (47.23m/154' 11").
