LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV softball sophomore Yanina Sherwood has been named the Raising Cane's Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Thursday.

Sherwood earned the recognition for the first time this season, while it's also the softball team's fifth of the year.

The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletics Strategic Communications department.

A native of Mill Creek, Washington, Sherwood helped the Rebels to a 3-0 series sweep over in-state rival UNR. In three appearances, she recorded a 0.00 ERA through a combined 5.0 innings of work, only allowing one hit and collecting two saves to go 1-0.

Sherwood tallied a combined four strikeouts, including the final outs in both game two and game three against the Wolf Pack. Additionally, she was named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week.
