FORT WORTH, Texas - Junior Shonda Mack made two free throws with 2.8 seconds left in overtime for TCU as it defeated UNLV 64-63 in a Western Athletic Conference women's basketball game Thursday at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
Trailing 49-39 with 6:23 to play in regulation, UNLV went on a 13-4 run to cut TCU's advantage to 53-52 with 2:16 left. TCU sophomore Amy Sutton made two free throws with 18 seconds left to put the Horned Frogs up 55-52, but UNLV senior Kristen Pool sank a three-pointer with 5 seconds on the clock to send the game into overtime.
TCU led 33-28 at halftime.
TCU (14-9, 6-5 WAC) was led by Sutton's game-high-tying 21 points. Mack turned in a game-high 14 rebounds, while the Horned Frogs had two others score in double figures.
UNLV (15-8, 6-5 WAC), which had its third four-game winning streak of the season snapped, was led by freshman Linda Froehlich's game-high-tying 21 points. Senior Angalete Dye added 12 points, while senior Liz Wolfe recorded 11. Pool led the game in assists with eight.
UNLV's next action will be Saturday, Feb. 20 vs. SMU in Dallas at 12:00 p.m. PST.
