FORT WORTH, Texas - Led by freshman Marci King's 17 kills, TCU defeated the UNLV volleyball team 16-14, 15-13, 5-15, 7-15, 16-14, in a Western Athletic Conference match Friday at Rickel Center.
TCU (5-21, 2-9 WAC) was assisted in the win by sophomore Ana Atamanczuk's 16 kills and 17 digs. King also recorded 14 digs for the Volleyfrogs.
UNLV (19-7, 8-3 WAC) was led by junior Jeanette Graves' 22 kills and 15 digs. Four other Rebels recorded double figures in kills as well as digs.
UNLV out-hit the Volleyfrogs .257 to .198 for the match and recorded 80 kills to TCU's 61. The Rebels out-dug TCU 75-61 and recorded 77 assists to TCU's 58.
Trailing 14-12 in the first game, UNLV tied the score at 14-14, however TCU scored the next two points to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
In the second game UNLV led 12-10 when TCU went on a 5-1 run to end the game and take a 2-0 advantage in the match.
UNLV exploded out to a 10-0 lead in the third game, extended it to 14-1 and eventually won to trail 2-1 in the match.
UNLV jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the fourth game as TCU cut it to 7-5. The Rebels then went on a 6-1 run eventually taking the game and forcing a deciding rally-scoring fifth game.
In the fifth game, TCU held an early 5-2 advantage and the two teams exchanged points to 8-5. UNLV cut the lead to 8-7 and tied the score at 9-9. After the score was tied at 14-14, TCU scored the final two points to win the match.
UNLV's next action will be Saturday as it plays SMU in Dallas at 7:00 p.m. CST. The Rebels' next home match will be Thursday, Nov. 19, against division-leader Colorado State at 7:00 p.m. PST at Lied Gymnasium.
