March 14, 1999

HONOLULU, Hawaii - After suffering a tough 1-0 loss at the hands of #25 Hawai'i in a pitchers' duel in game one of a three-game conference series, the Rebels were outscored 14-3 in Saturday's doubleheader, losing 2-10 (5) and 1-4.

The Rebels (9-11 overall,3-3 WAC) outhit the Rainbow Wahine (17-9 overall, 6-3 WAC) eight to six in game one but errors proved costly as UNLV fell 10-2 in five innings. A big second inning for the Rainbow Wahine proved to be the difference. The inning started with Trisha Ramos' RBI-double to give Hawai'i the 2-0 lead. Geney Orris replaced Charelle Ainslie after the second run scored and immediately gave up another Wahine RBI-double. Three Rebel errors in the second aided Hawai'i to five runs as the Wahine went up 7-0. The Rebels battled back with two runs in their half of the third but three runs in the bottom of the fifth gave Hawai'i the 10-2 victory by way of the eight-run mercy rule. Ainslie picked up the loss for UNLV to go 5-3 on the season.

In the nightcap the Rebels jumped to an early lead when Racheal Goodpaster homered on the second pitch of the game for her seventh home run of the season. Hawai'i came back with four runs in the Wahine half of the third to go up 4-1. Hawai'i used four hits, including a two RBI-single by Ramos, to take the lead for good as the Rainbow Wahine completed the sweep with the 4-1 victory. Freshman Nicole Truax picked up the loss to bring her record to 1-4.

UNLV is back on the road next week as they compete at the Kia Klassic in Fullerton, Calif. March 19-21.
