HOUSTON, Texas - Led by sophomore Justine Kamelamela's career-high of 29 kills the UNLV volleyball team defeated Rice 12-15, 15-6, 15-12, 15-5 in a Western Athletic Conference match Thursday at Autry Court on the campus of Rice University.
The victory was the seventh-in-a-row for the Rebels, matching the longest winning streak in program history as the 1984 squad also won seven consecutive matches.
Kamelamela added 15 digs for the double-double as UNLV improved its record to 13-3 overall and 2-0 in WAC play. Junior Angie Sylvas assisted the Rebels in the win with 15 kills and a match-high 16 digs, while senior Meri-de Boyer recorded a match-high 51 assists.
Rice (11-6, 0-3 WAC) was led by senior Tiffany Carrethers and junior Karolina Zelinka who both recorded 11 kills.
The Rebels out-hit the Owls .249 to .115 for the match and recorded 74 kills to Rice's 48.
UNLV's next action will be Saturday, Oct. 10 as it travels to Tulsa, Okla., to face the University of Tulsa. The match will begin at 7:00 p.m. central.
