Santa Clara Defeats Volleyball Team

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Ynez Carrasco led all players with 14 kills as Santa Clara defeated the UNLV volleyball team 15-10, 15-7, 15-7 at Toso Pavilion Saturday.

Santa Clara (9-3) was assisted in the win by Laura Raybould?s match-high 14 digs. Amy Kohl added 13 kills for the Broncos.

UNLV (7-3) was led by Jeanette Graves? 13 kills, while Angie Sylvas added 8.

In game one, UNLV held leads of 6-2 and 8-4, but Santa Clara came back and scored 11 of the final 13 points.

Santa Clara used a 6-0 run in game two to take a 9-2 lead. The Rebels cut the deficit to three points at 10-7, but the Broncos finished the game with a 5-0 run.

UNLV held a 2-1 lead in game three as Santa Clara scored 11 of the next 12 points to take a 12-3 advantage. The Rebels made the score 14-7, before falling.

UNLV?s next action will be on Tuesday, Sept. 28, as it travels to Reno, Nev., to face intrastate rival Nevada, Reno at 7:00 p.m.
