LAS VEGAS - The UNLV volleyball team suffered two losses during the first day of competition at the Gameworks UNLV Invitational at the Thomas & Mack Center Friday.
Idaho State defeated UNLV in its first match 15-12, 15-10, 15-9, and Alabama got past UNLV in five games, 10-15, 6-15, 15-9, 15-6, 15-9, in the nightcap.
In the first match, Idaho State (3-3) was led by Amanda Berg's 17 kills. Rachelle Nelson and Kellie DeHass each turned in 12 digs, while Sarah Kozlowski had 50 assists.
UNLV was led by Oge Fitz' double-double of 20 kills and 11 digs. Maria Julia Goes also turned in a double-double with 47 assists and 12 digs.
In UNLV's second match, Alabama (3-2) was led by Emily Sebastian's 13 kills, while Monica Morales added 10 digs.
The Rebels (0-5) were led by Leiana Oswald's 18 kills. Fitz turned in a double-double of 13 kills and 11 digs, while Goes also had a double-double of 45 assists and 10 digs.
The Invitational concludes on Saturday with five matches beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center.
