Women's Soccer Drops To San Diego State

Nov. 3, 2001

LAS VEGAS - A three goal comeback by San Diego State in the second half fueled the visiting Aztecs to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over UNLV in a Mountain West Conference women's soccer match Saturday night in Las Vegas.

In the 79th minute, San Diego State's Annie Klotovich scored the game-winning goal off a left side pass from teammate Danielle Small, after having recorded the team's first goal of the night at the 57:18 minute mark off a right side corner kick placed in by Kim Rogers.

It had been all UNLV prior to the three goals, as senior Anita Pedford took advantage of a free kick into the box by junior Cristyn Enea, with a perfect header hitting the back of the net at 35:26. Enea would later connect off a bounce pass from sophomore Kelly Oshay at 50:06, to put the Rebels' lead to 2-0.

SDSU made its comeback from Klotovich's two goals for the night and an unassisted goal at 75:17 by Gina Salinas inside the box, off a dropped ball in-front of the net.

The Rebels close the regular season with a 10-6-2 overall record and 3-3-0 MWC finish, while the Aztecs improve to 6-10-1 overall, 2-3-1 MWC.

Seniors Alice Gleason (Park Ridge, Ill.), Suzanne Jensen (Encinitas, Calif.), Robyn Krivacic (Carrollton, Texas), Anita Pedford (Ontario, Calif.), Marni Polakow (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) and Janae Sims (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) were honored prior to the start of the game as part of "Senior Day" festivities.

With the 2001 Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Championships ahead on Nov. 7-10, the Rebels earn the No. 3 seed in the league tournament and will play the No. 6 seed (either Wyoming or Air Force) on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. All MWC tournament games will be played at Peter Johann Memorial Field in Las Vegas with UNLV serving as the host institution.
