MWC Award Finds Fr?hlich Again

Feb. 20, 2001

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV women's basketball star Linda Fr?hlich has been named the Mountain West Conference Co-Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

For the third time this season and record sixth in her career, Fr?hlich has captured the conference's weekly honor. Only one other player in any sport has been honored six times in the MWC's two-year history. BYU volleyball standout Nina Puikkonen earned the award four times this season and twice last year.

Fr?hlich garners the award after leading her club to two home victories last week. She led all scorers with 22 points on 10-of-16 shooting to guide the Rebels to a 73-47 victory over Air Force on Feb. 15. She followed that performance with her 38th career double-double, a 32-point, 11-rebound, six-block effort against New Mexico on Feb. 17. Her final two points were the most important, however, as she scored the both from the free throw line with only 11 seconds remaining to help UNLV avenge a Jan. 18 loss to the Lobos with a 75-70 win.

Fr?hlich shares the award with San Diego State's Atim Otii, whose Aztecs will invade the Thomas & Mack Center on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 12:35 p.m. in the Rebels' regular season home finale.
