LARAMIE, Wyo. - The UNLV volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (30-25, 30-24, 30-22) match to the Cowgirls of Wyoming on Friday night in the Multipurpose Gym in Laramie, Wyo. With the loss, the Rebels fall to 4-12 on the season, 0-3 in Mountain West Conference play. The Cowgirls improve to 15-2, 1-1 in league play.
UNLV struggled offensively, hitting only .112 (41-29-107) in the match to Wyoming's .365 (47-12-96) attack percentage. The Rebels were also out-blocked 22-4 in the match.
Shannon Chase led the Rebels both offensively and defensively finishing with 15 kills and 11 digs.
Blair Wilkes and Patricia Assuncao each tallied eight kills. Assuncao also added a pair of blocks. Leiana Oswald posted five kills and three digs.
Nicki King finished with 35 assists, three digs and two kills on two attempts.
Wyoming was led by Michele Rauter, who finished with 13 kills, seven digs and three blocks. Leah Powers posted eight block assists on the night.
The Rebels are playing without the services of three of their middle blockers. Junior Michelle Johnson is taking a redshirt season while rehabbing a shoulder injury. Junior Christina Kirschner is still recovering from a concussion she received against DePaul on Sept. 13 and sophomore Sheila Ocasio-Clemente injured her foot against BYU last weekend and will likely sit out until next weekend.
UNLV looks to snap an eight-match losing streak when the team travels to Colorado State on Saturday for a 6 p.m. match.
