Rebels Fall In Conference Opener At Wyoming 1-0

LARAMIE, Wyo. - Sarah Skinner's free kick sailed into the net for the only goal of the game to give Wyoming a 1-0 victory over UNLV in women's collegiate soccer action on Friday afternoon at Laramie, Wyo., in the Mountain West Conference season opener for both teams. UNLV, which was shutout for the third straight game, falls to 6-6-1, 0-1 in the MWC on the year, while the Cowgirls improved to 6-6 and 1-0 in the league. The win for Wyoming was just its third-ever in the five year history of the conference, and first ever in seven tries against the Rebels.

Both teams played to a scoreless first half, though the Rebel offense managed just three shots to Wyoming's six. UNLV picked it up in the second half with eight shots, but couldn't get past Cowgirl goalkeeper Lore Scheider, who posted seven saves for the game. UNLV's Jenna Huff also recorded seven saves for the game, but couldn't stop Skinner's shot off a free kick at the 50:07 mark.

UNLV will next move out of conference play to take on Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Sunday at Noon.
