LAS VEGAS (AP) - Matt Berry scored from 1 yard out with 29 seconds left in regulation to tie the game and then hit Toby Christensen with a 9-yard touchdown pass in overtime to lead BYU over UNLV 27-20 on Saturday night.
UNLV had a final possession in overtime after the BYU touchdown, but the Rebels failed to make a first down.
Berry completed 31 of 44 passes for 274 yards and two touchdowns. Christensen caught 10 passes for 81 yards for BYU (4-5, 3-3 Mountain West), which has never lost in five games against UNLV in Las Vegas.
Larry Croom rushed 25 times for 97 yards for the Rebels (4-4, 0-3), who lost their third straight conference game.
UNLV led 6-0 at the end of the first quarter after two Dillon Pieffer 33-yard field goals. Dyante Perkins' 4-yard touchdown run with 13:50 left in the half made it 13-0.
BYU started its comeback with an 8-yard scoring pass from Berry to Christensen with 9:56 to play in the half.
Two Matt Payne field goals, one from 40 yards and another from 50, tied it at halftime, 13-13.
The game remained tied until Kurt Nantkes hit Earvin Johnson with a 22-yard touchdown pass with 4:56 to play, giving UNLV a 20-13 lead and setting up the late rally by the Cougars.
