Box Score

LAS VEGAS - Jacqueline Kerrigan tossed a three-hit shutout to lead the UNLV softball team to a 1-0 victory over the University of Hawaii on Friday at Eller Media Stadium.

Kerrigan (3-2) struck out five and scattered just three singles in posting an impressive win over No. 32 Hawaii (3-5).

Shortstop Amber Campbell was the Rebels' hero on the offensive side, driving in the game's only run with a single drilled to left. After Bridget Byrne kicked off the inning by stretching a single to shallow left into a double and then taking third on a wild pitch, it was Campbell who delivered the crucial hit.

UNLV (3-3) collected six hits in the game, including another double from Lisa Sampson. Sampson was a perfect 2-for-2 in the game, hitting a single and double and drawing two walks.

UH pitcher Paula Blanning (0-2) was tagged with the loss.

The win marks UNLV's second straight over the Wahine, dating back to last season. It was Hawaii's second loss in play at the 2004 UNLV Softball Classic and puts the Rebels at 1-0 heading into a nightcap matchup against No. 2 Cal.
