Rebels Host Bengals, Sun Devils

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's soccer team, 5-2-2 on the season, begins its last week of play before the start of the Mountain West Conference season with a pair of home games this weekend against Idaho State and Arizona State. The Rebels will take on ISU on Thursday night at 7 pm, while the Arizona State contest is set for Sunday at Noon, both games will be played at Peter Johann Memorial Field.

UNLV went 1-0-1 last weekend, as the Rebels held off San Diego 2-1 on Katie Carney's goal in the final 10 minutes of the match. That was followed by a 0-0 double-overtime tie at Nevada, Reno, as UNLV was forced to play the final 40 minutes of the match shorthanded due to a red card given to a Rebel defender. Junior Jessica Brown has paced the squad this year with seven points (two goals, three assists), which ties her fifth in the MWC, while Nickie Olson has six points for the season (two goals, two assists). Junior Jenna Huff is first in the league in saves (50), shutouts (four), and fifth in goals against average (0.94).

Idaho State is 5-2-1 on the season, and are coming off a 1-0 overtime win over Boise State on Sunday. The Bengals have also handed MWC member BYU a 3-1 loss in Pocatello, Idaho earlier this season. They are being led this year by Natalie Graham with at team-high eight points (three goals, two assists), while Shawna Park and Jennifer Loo both have six points for the year. Shannon Boyle is the goalkeeper for the Bengals, and has a 0.96 GAA with 24 saves and two shutouts.

The Sun Devils of Arizona State hold a 3-5 record, having lost three straight, though three of the five losses are to ranked teams, including a 2-1 loss to No. 24 Pepperdine on Sept. 26.They do have a 3-2 win at BYU on Sept 4, their only road win of the 2004 season. Katie Leahy paces the team with four goals and one assists for nine points, while Elizabeth Bogus has three goals and three assists for nine points as well. Manya Makoski has also tallied three goals for the year (three goals, two assists, eight points). Two goalies have seen time for the Sun Devils, though Kim Bingham has seen the majority of time, and has a 2.23 goals against average and 21 saves.
