LAS VEGAS - UNLV distance runner Jenni Shearer posted her first career top-15 finish to pace the Rebel cross country team to a fifth-place finish Saturday morning at the UNLV Invite, held at Floyd Lamb State Park.
Shearer crossed the finish line in a time of 19:54.60 to finish 11th, the highest finisher for the Rebels, who had 161 team points.
Concordia won the meet with 41 points, followed by Cal State LA with 47 and Cal State San Marcos finished with 51. Natalie Perkins of Cuca won the meet with a time of 18:23.58 on the 5k course.
Janessa Hoppe was the next Rebel finisher, coming in 24th with a time of 21:13.79. She was followed by Ali Ainsworth (37th, 22:04.29), Deanna Appuglise (45th, 22:49.88), Lakeisha Lawson (62nd, 24:33.22), Ashley Patin (63rd, 24:38.62), Desarae Tyson (64th, 25:01.21), Ann Clark (77th, 27:56.03) and Brittney Bullocks (79th, 30:40.32).
UNLV continues its season next weekend at the Sacramento State Invitational, which is Oct. 14.
