SUNRIVER, Ore. - The UNLV men's golf team shot a second-round 4-over-par 292 on Tuesday at the 17th annual NCAA PING/Golfweek Preview at Sunriver Resort's Crosswater Club (par 72, 7,671 yards) and dropped to fifth place, 14 shots back of leader Georgia.
UNLV freshman Seung-Su Han (69-69--138, -6) shot 3-under 69 for the second straight day and is in fourth place individually, two shots off the lead. Georgia's Brian Harman (69-67--136, -8) has the tournament's lead at 8-under 136 and is followed by Oklahoma State's Pablo Martin (73-64--137, -7) and Wake Forest's Webb Simpson (70-67--137, -7), who are both tied for second at 7-under. Martin's second-round 8-under 64 tied the course record set by Colorado State's Martin Laird in the first round of the 2004 Mountain West Conference Championship.
Georgia (284-284--568, -8) matched its first-round total of 4-under 284 on the tournament's second day and leads the field by 10 shots at 8-under 568. Georgia Tech (294-284--578, +2) is second at 2-over, followed by Oklahoma State (297-283--580, +4), Augusta State (295-286--581, +5) and UNLV (290-292--582, +6).
Other Rebel scores: freshman Blake Trimble (71-76--147, +3; T24th), sophomore C.J. Gatto (76-75--151, +7; T40th), senior Andres Gonzales (79-72--151, +7; T40th) and sophomore Jarred Texter (74-78--152, +8; T51st).
The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Wednesday and features the top 14 team finishers at the 2005 NCAA Championshps as well as Portland, which will serve as host of the 2006 NCAA Championships this spring.
