LAS VEGAS - The UNLV volleyball team picked up its 16th win of 2006 with a 3-0 sweep over the New Mexico Lobos on Saturday night in the Cox Pavilion. The 16 wins are the second-most in the new era of Rebel volleyball since the program was brought back to life in 1996. With the win, UNLV improves to 7-5 in Mountain West Conference play and 16-8 overall. The Rebels won the match with game-scores of 30-28, 30-17, 30-17.
The victory gives the team a two-match winning streak heading into next week's match at Wyoming (Thursday, Nov. 2). With the 3-0 margin of victory, UNLV has now won 10 matches by that margin, which is only two shy of tying the school record set in 1998.
UNLV racked up 53 kills, while hitting .296 in the match. The Rebels hit a lowly .096 in their first-game win, but turned the hitting around by connecting for a .471 in the second and .410 in the third.
New Mexico's (7-17, 3-9 MWC) attackers only managed 35 kills, while hitting .067. The Lobos offense waned after the first game, as the team's hitting numbers dropped in each frame. In the first they hit .116, but fell to .068 in the second and even lower at .021 in the third.
The Rebels were led offensively by double-figure kill outings by Maria Aladjova and Brittani Lumsden. Aladjova notched a match-high 21 kills and has now led the team in that category on 14 occasions. She has also hit in double-digits in 20 of the squad's 23 matches. Lumsden pitched in with her 10 kills. Lauren Miramontes hit for a match-high .778 in hitting with seven kills on nine attempts with no errors.
Kristin Koochi picked up the lone double-double of the match with her 21 assists combined with 12 digs. Melody Nua fell one assist shy of tying Koochi with her 20 helpers.

At the net, Samantha Noland was in on eight blocks with three of them going down in the solo category.
The Lobo attackers failed to have an individual reach double-digits, as Kelly Therkelson led the team with her eight kills. Sarah Kwasigroch dished out a match-high 27 assists. Gayle Tripp had a match-high 22 digs.
