Rebels Fail In Conquering Pyramid

Sept. 15, 2006

Final Stats

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV volleyball team (8-3) dropped its first match since Sept. 1, with its 3-1 loss in the Walter Pyramid at Long Beach State (8-2). The loss ends the Rebels six-match winning streak, which ranked as the third-longest in program history. Unfortunately, for UNLV the match started off with a game one win. From there on out, the 49ers ran away with the following three games for the win. The Rebels lost the match with game scores of 32-30, 19-30, 16-30, 19-30.

The 49ers out hit the Rebels .315 to .099 and racked up 13 more kills, 64-to-50. The 49ers hit their lowest hitting percentage in their game one loss with a .156 tally. They turned it around by hitting a staggering .452, .500 and .267 in the final three games, respectively. In those final three games, they had six errors total with three in each the second and fourth games and only one in the third.

The Rebels, on the other hand, only hit above .100 on two occasions, in game one (.171) and game four (.114). The second and third games were well below the .100 mark with a .054 figure in game two and .033 in the third.

The Rebels were led in kills by Maria Aladjova's 13 and Jessica Walters' 12. Melody Nua racked up 30 assists, while teammate Kristin Koochi had 13. Jada Walker was the lone Rebel to notch double-digit dig numbers with 14.

The 49ers had five players hit for double-digits in the kill department. Michaela Hasalikova nailed down 15 en route to hitting .542 for the match. Both numbers were match highs. Robin Miramontes, the sister of UNLV's Lauren Miramontes, was second on her team with 13 kills. Naomi Washington (13), Alexis Crimes (10) and Quincy Verdin (10) rounded out the 49ers with 10 or more kills.

Robin Miramontes, Nicole Vargas and Crimes all achieved double-doubles for LBSU, but all did it in different ways. Miramontes added 11 digs to her kill figures. Vargas dished out match-high 50 assists to her 13 digs. Crimes combined her 10 kills with 12 total blocks (10 assisted) to achieve her feat.

Next up for the Rebels is a 5:00 p.m. matinee match with UC Riverside on Saturday. The Rebels look to get back on the winning side of things as they close out their road swing through California tomorrow.
