ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The No. 5 UNLV men's golf team is in 10th place after the first day of play at the William H. Tucker Invitational Friday at the Championship Course (par 72, 7,354 yards).
The tournament's second round was cut short because of darkness and will be finished on Saturday morning.
When play was halted, the Rebels were at 18-over par, 13 shots behind team leader New Mexico. UNLV shot a 2-over 290 during the first round, which was played in the morning.
New Mexico shot a first-round 2-under 286 and currently holds the lead at 5-over. Tulsa is second at 7-over, followed by BYU at 10-over, Texas A&M at 13-over, while there is a three-way tie for fifth place at 14-over (New Mexico Silver, Colorado and Pepperdine).
New Mexico's Charlie Beljan shot an opening-round 5-under 67 and currently holds the tournament's individual lead at 6-under. Tulsa's Brett Myers is second at 5-under and is followed by Texas A&M's Martin Piller in third at 4-under.
UNLV junior Jarred Texter led the way for the Rebels and is tied for fourth at 1-under. Texter shot an even-par 72 during the first round.
Other Rebel first round scores and current places and scores: sophomore Eddie Olson (73, T32nd, +5), junior C.J. Gatto (72, T45th, +6), sophomore Seung-Su Han (73, T71st, +9) and senior Ryan Keeney (75, T77th, +10).
After the second round wraps up on Saturday morning, final round play will begin.
