LAS VEGAS - UNLV had a total of 84 student-athletes earn Spring 2007 Academic All-Mountain West Conference honors, the conference announced this week. UNLV's 84 representatives were the third most in the league, behind BYU's 154 and New Mexico's 103. UNLV also had 29 student-athletes named a MWC Scholar-Athlete.
To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-MWC team, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the school while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their team. To be eligible for selection as a MWC Scholar-Athlete, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition for their athletic team.
The women's swimming and diving team led the way at UNLV with selections to the Academic All-MWC team with an impressive 17 members, while the men's swimming team was right behind with 13. Rebel softball had the most members named from that sport in the MWC with 14, and the baseball team had a league-high 13 representatives.
Seven members from the women's basketball team were selected, five from men's tennis, four from men's golf, three each from women's tennis and women's golf, and two from men's basketball.
