TUCSON, Ariz. - UNLV's Eddie Olson jumped from a tie for fourth place to the individual lead at the 2008 Mountain West Conference Men's Golf Championship on Friday, which is being played at the Catalina Course at Tucson National (par 71, 7,136).
Olson fired a 2-under-par 69, which followed Thursday's round of 1-under 70, for a 36-hole total of 3-under 139. Olson leads teammate Brett Kanda, Robby Ormand of TCU and Adam Tebbs of BYU by a shot. Kanda followed up his first-round 69 with an even-par 71 on Friday and sits at 2-under for the tournament. Ormand, the 2007 MWC individual champion, posted the day's best score of 4-under 67.
As a team, the No. 15 Rebels dropped out of the lead after shooting a second-round score of 2-over 286 and are in third place with a 36-hole total of 1-under 567. TCU and BYU are both tied for the tournament's lead at 4-under 564. The Horned Frogs shot a second-round 3-under 281, while the Cougars shot the low round of the tournament with a 6-under 278. Colorado State is fourth at 4-over, while Utah is fifth at 10-over.
UNLV's Seung-Su Han shot a 2-over 73 during the second round and is tied for seventh at even-par 142, Ji Moon shot a second-round 2-over 73 and is tied for 22nd at 4-over 146, while Matt Kinsinger shot 4-over 75 during the second round and is tied for 29th at 6-over 148 to round out the Rebel scores.
