WAHIAWA, Hawaii - The No. 21 UNLV men's golf team shot a 1-over-par 289 during the final round of play on Friday and finished in 12th place at the 33rd Annual John A. Burns Intercollegiate, which featured 17 teams and was played at Leilehua Golf Course (par 72, 6,917 yards).

Texas A&M shot a final-round-low 16-under 272 to capture the team title by three shots with a 54-hole total of 28-under 836. New Mexico finished second at 25-under, followed by Arizona, which led after the first two rounds, in third at 24-under. Arkansas and Denver rounded out the top five at 15- and 14-under, respectively. UNLV finished out of the top five in a tournament for the first time this season (six events) and had a 54-hole score of even-par 864.

New Mexico's James Erkenbeck used a final-round 7-under 65 to catapult himself to the individual title by a shot over Arizona's Tarquin Macmanus, who was the tournament leader after the first and second rounds. Erkenbeck finished at 11-under 205, while Macmanus, who shot even-par 72 during the final round, was 10-under for the tournament.

UNLV junior Eddie Olson was his team's top finisher as he tied for 16th at 5-under 211 after a final-round 1-over 73.

Other UNLV final-round scores, totals and places: junior Brett Kanda (73, 1-over 217, T46th), freshman Derek Ernst (73, 3-over 219, T53rd), sophomore Ji Moon (70, 5-over 221, T64th), freshman Colby Smith (78, 13-over 229, T83rd) and junior Johnny Pinjuv (80, 21-over 237, 94th), who was competing as an individual.

UNLV will be back in action March 13-15, when it hosts the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship at Southern Highlands Golf Club in Las Vegas.
