Rebels Lose Five-Setter To Xavier

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels (3-9) lost a thrilling five-setter to the Xavier Musketeers (7-5) by a 3-2 margin. Xavier won the match with set scores of 18-25, 15-25, 25-22, 25-17, 15-10.

The match was a tale of two halves, as UNLV jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with 25-18 and 25-15 scores in the first two frames before the intermission. Xavier managed to turn its offense around in the second portion of the match with wins in the final three stanzas (25-22, 25-17, 15-10).

UNLV out-hit Xavier by a .303 to .270 margin and collected three more kills (66-to-63) and had one less error (19-to-20). The Rebels opened the match with a .625 hitting efficiency and followed with a .410 in the second. Unfortunately, their hitting kept decreasing throughout the remainder of the match.

Xavier, on the other hand, began with a .250 and .158 effort in the first two sets, respectively. They came alive with a .343 in the third and .361 in the fourth. The Musketeers closed out the match with a .222 in the fifth.

The Rebels were paced by double-doubles from Kelsey Keeler and Kendra Glendenning. The feat for Keeler was the third of her career and second of the day, as she racked up a team-high 16 kills and added 12 digs. Glendenning notched her first career double-double as a Rebel with a team-high 29 kills and chipped in 10 digs.

Candice Thomas, who was named to the 2010 UNLV Classic All-Tournament Team, pitched in 14 kills, five blocks (three solo) and three digs.

Amanda Alles joined Glendenning in assist double figures with 22 and had three kills and two digs.

The Musketeers got a double-double from Kaela Jo Freppon with her 13 kills and 10 digs.

Shannon Voors and Claire Paszkiewicz joined Thomas on the all-tournament squad. Voors had a match-high 23 kills, while Paszkiewicz led all setters with 58 assists. The both contributed defensively with Voors tallying eight digs to Paszkiewicz's seven.

Xavier's Stephanie Vorherr had a match-high 19 digs.

UNLV returns to action next Friday, Sept. 24 at 7:00 pm against Air Force. The match is the conference opener for both squads.
