Oct. 25, 2014

Box Score: UNLV 3, Fresno State 1

FRESNO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV volleyball team completed an arduous run of four road matches in a span of 10 days Saturday with a 3-1, come-from-behind victory (21-25, 25-11, 25-23, 25-19) over the Fresno State Bulldogs at the Save Mart Center. The host Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead only to see the Rebels fight back with victories in the three subsequent sets.

With the win, the Scarlet & Gray has notched its second six-match winning streak of the year and helped push its overall record to 19-5. In MW play, the Rebels sit in second place at 7-2 with Saturday's match signaling the conclusion of the first half of the conference slate. FS, on the other hand, had its yearly mark drop to 6-18, while it is 1-9 in league action.

UNLV outhit FS .189 to .101 with the help of a 14-error disparity (20-34) between the squads. The Bulldogs managed to amass three more kills (48-45) off an edge of seven attack attempts (132-139); however, those extra numbers did not translate to positive outcomes. The Rebels topped out with a .526 hitting efficiency in the second set, but were unable to surpass the .269 barrier in any of the other stanzas. FS's best showing came in its first-set win with a .229 effort.

UNLV was led offensively by Daryn Glenn and her team-best 12 kills. During the second set, Glenn became the first Rebel in program history to surpass the 1,000 kill and 1,000 dig milestones. Dating back to 1999 there have only been six other individuals to achieve the feat in MW history dating back to the league's inaugural year.

Besides the offensive production, Glenn aided defensively with seven digs and five assisted blocks. She also chipped in one assist.

"This was a tough match for us," said head coach Cindy Fredrick. "We started really flat and had a lot of hitting errors. Our blocking, passing and serving kept us in the match. It was a great night for Daryn, as she recorded her 1,000th kill. That is a fantastic accomplishment and we are so proud of her after she has battled back from two knee surgeries. We are also glad to get off the road and return home."

Bree Hammel, who ranks in the top-10 nationally in total blocks and blocks per set, loomed large at the net with a career-best 11 blocks. Hammel notched one solo put back and assisted on 10 others. To go along with the blocks, she hit a team-best .350 with nine kills, one ace and one dig.

Glenn wasn't the only Rebel to crack the double-digit kill barrier, as Alyssa Wing nailed 10 of her own. Wing also had four total blocks (one solo), three digs and an assist.

Alexis Patterson picked up her seventh double-double of the year with a combination of 33 assists and 10 digs. Patterson helped out at the net with five assisted blocks, as well.

Defensively, UNLV had a season-high 19.0 total team blocks with at least five assisted stuffs from five different players. Katlin Winters and Ceannia Kincade joined the aforementioned trio with six and five assisted blocks of their own, respectively. The former had six kills to the latter's seven.

The Rebels return to Las Vegas to kick off the second half of conference action with return engagements from their Front Range foes.
