Hammel Picks Up Second Weekly Honor

Dec. 1, 2014

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV's Bree Hammel was chosen the Mountain West Women's Volleyball Player of the Week for matches played Nov. 24-26, 2014. It's the second MW weekly honor for Hammel this season.

The Las Vegas native capped the Rebels' stellar season with 17 kills in a 3-1 victory over the San Diego State Aztecs last Tuesday. Hammel attempted a total of 33 swings and committed no errors en route to a match-best .515 hitting efficiency. She had a minimum of four kills in the three sets - first, third and fourth - that the Scarlet & Gray won in the contest, including six in the third frame.

On the defensive side of the net, she led all players with seven total blocks (one). She recorded one of the team's two solo blocks and was involved in six of its nine assisted blocks.

Hammel earned her first MW weekly honor on Nov. 10, and in turn became the first Rebel since Lauren Miramontes to garner multiple nods in one season since 2007. In fact, Miramontes was MW Player of the Week on four occasions in '07.
