May 20, 2014

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV softball head coach Lisa Dodd was tabbed as an assistant coach for the USA Softball Women's National Team program, announced today by the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) and USA Softball. Laura Berg (Oregon State head coach) and Howard Dobson (LSU assistant coach) were also selected to assist Ken Ericksen (South Florida head coach) - head coach of the women's program.

"We're very excited to have these three coaches on the staff for the 2014 National Team," said Ericksen to USA Softball. "They each bring a wealth of knowledge about this game and in their previous years working with the team, they have proven they have the ability to connect with our athletes and get the most out of them."

This will be Dodd's second stint with Team USA, as she served as an assistant coach with the 2013 USA Softball Junior Women's National Team that went 9-1 en route to a silver medal at the ISF World Championships in Brampton, Ontario, Canada.

In preparation for the ISF Women's World Championships, August 15-24, 2014 in Haarlem, Netherlands, the 2014 Women's National Team will compete in a series of exhibition games as well as three tournaments that include the World Cup of Softball IX in Irvine, Calif., July 7-13; the Canadian Open Fast Pitch International in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, July 15-21; and Italian Softball Week in Azzano, Italy, August 6-10.

Just last week, the Rebel skipper was selected as one of 25 coaches to the 2015-16 USA Softball Women's National Team Coaching Pool. Head and assistant coaches for the Women's National Team and Junior Women's National Team will be selected from this list for all 2015 and '16 competition. A selection committee chooses the coaching pool every two years based on the International Softball Federation (ISF) World Championships biennial cycle.
