SEATTLE (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV volleyball team (8-3) jumped back into its winning ways with a 3-0 sweep (31-29, 25-13, 25-20) of the UC Davis Aggies (2-6) Saturday afternoon at the Connolly Center. With the win, the Rebels closed out their stay in the Emerald City with a 2-1 record at The Invitational in Seattle and, more impressively, they have won six of their last seven matches.
The 3-0 victory was the sixth by the Scarlet & Gray in seven tries this season.
UNLV outhit UCD .197 to .067 with hitting efficiencies of .211 or better in its final two sets - .333 in set two and .211 in set three. The Rebels were able to throw down two more kills (39-37) and commit 13 less errors (15-28) despite attempting 12 less swings (122-134). The Aggies were hindered offensively by a combined 21 miscues in the first two frames to produce paltry figures of .048 and -.033. They were able to notch a .171 effort in the third and final stanza.
For the second straight outing, Alexis Patterson recorded a double-double with a combination of a match-high 26 assists and 12 digs. Patterson also contributed four kills, three aces and two assisted blocks.
Bree Hammel paced the team at the net with match highs in kills (12), hitting efficiency (.500) and blocks (six assisted), while helping out with two assists and two digs.
For their efforts, Patterson and Hammel were tabbed to the Invite's All-Tournament Team with Washington's Krista Vansant (MVP), Lianna Sybeldon and Katy Beals, UC Davis' Katie Quinn and Seattle's Matea Mamic.
The offense also got nine kills from Alyssa Wing and seven more from both Ceannia Kincade and Daryn Glenn. All three recorded at least three digs with Kincade pacing the trio with 10 compared to eight from Glenn and three from Wing. Kincade and Glenn pitched in four and three assisted blocks, as well.
Besides the double-digit dig outputs from Patterson and Kincade, Allison Davies led the Rebel contingent with 17.
The Aggies got a double-double from Allie Wegener in a losing effort with a pairing of 10 kills and 11 digs. The team split its setting duties between Sophia Mar and Erika Connors, who had 16 and 15, respectively. Megan Lancaster had a match-best 21 digs to go with double-digit efforts from Wegener and Kaylin Squyres (11).
UNLV stays out on the road for a third consecutive week with a stop in the Conway, Ark., at the Central Arkansas Sugar Bear Invitational from Sept. 19-20. The Rebels will open up with a pair of matches against Grambling and New Orleans on Friday, Sept. 19 before they square off with tourney host UCA one day later.
NOTES: UNLV's seven three-set matches in 11 outings is one shy of the eight they played - to a 4-4 record - in as many tries in 2013 ... In all eight of UNLV's victories this season, the team has held its opposition to a .171 or below hitting efficiency, while in its three losses the squads hit .222 or better.
