Box Score

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV volleyball team (11-8 overall, 4-3 Mountain West) fought back to tie the match at 1-all before the intermission only to see the host New Mexico Lobos (11-9, 4-3 MW) rattle off victories in the third and fourth sets en route to a 3-1 decision. New Mexico won the match behind scores of 25-18, 22-25, 25-20, 25-17 at the Johnson Center.

The Rebels entered the contest winners of five of the last six meetings vs. the Lobos, including three straight played in the Duke City and both meetings during the 2014 campaign (Las Vegas and Albuquerque).

UNM outhit UNLV by 115 points (.230 to .115) with help from 19 more kills (61-42) and only eight more attack attempts (165-157). The Lobos also committed one less error in the bout (23-24) with no more than seven in any set, while hitting between .323 (first set) and .191 (second). The Rebels, on the other hand, had their best offensive showing in the second frame with their .205 hitting efficiency. The Scarlet & Gray also had averages of .129 (third), .083 (first) and .043 (fourth) in the tilt.

"We're just not terminating; not killing the ball and getting outhustled on defense," said head coach Cindy Fredrick. "Our serving and blocking were strong, but we have to start killing the ball."

UNLV got double-doubles from both Alyssa Wing and Alexis Patterson in defeat. The former combined 10 kills, a team high, with 10 digs for the feat, while the latter paired a team-best 31 assists with 11 digs. Wing also chipped in one assist, one ace and one assisted block. Patterson added three kills and one ace.

Besides the double-digit dig efforts by Wing and Patterson, the Rebels also got 10 or more digs from Carly Riehl (18 digs) and Ceannia Kincade (10).

On the defensive side of the net, Ashley Owens was involved in seven of UNLV's total team blocks. Owens notched one solo and six assisted putbacks. Her teammate Bree Hammel had three total blocks (one solo), as well.

The Lobos were paced by a double-double from Hannah Johnson, who had match highs in both assists (47) and digs (21). Johnson's setting helped Cassie House to a match-best 16 kills. Skye Gullatt and Simone Henderson also recorded 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

UNM also had four of its own register double figures in digs. Johnson's 21 were followed by Ashley Kelsey's 17, Stephanie Chavez's 14 and Julia Warren's 12.

The Rebels are at the midway point of their stretch of four matches in eight days. They'll resume play Tuesday at Fresno State (7:00 pm) before concluding the run Thursday at San Jose State (6:00 pm). UNLV returns home to the Cox Pavilion on Oct. 29, against Utah State.
