Rebels Face Rocky Mountain Foes This Week

Nov. 17, 2015

2015 UNLV Volleyball Weekly Notes - Week 13

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels will host one match and travel for another this week with both contests coming against their Mountain West foes from the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. UNLV will begin this week's action by closing out its three-match homestand with the #13 Colorado State Rams before it hits the road one last time this season with a stop in Laramie, Wyo., against the Wyoming Cowgirls.

The Rams and Cowgirls are positioned ahead of the Rebels (8-7) in the Conference standings with the former (15-0) in first, while the latter is third (11-4).

With help from its 3-0 win over San Jose State last Thursday, CSU clinched a share of the 2015 MW championship. Including this year's title, the squad from Fort Collins has finished atop the league's standings for seven straight years dating back to the 2009 campaign.

UNLV can delay CSU's opportunity to clinch the MW title outright with a win. The last time these two met, the Rebels got the best of the seventh-ranked Rams in a four-setter played in Las Vegas on Nov. 1, 2014. The victory by the Scarlet & Gray snapped an 18-match winning streak that CSU carried into the contest. Coincidentally, the 2015 Rams have won 16 straight prior to Wednesday's tilt.

Those links, as well as, a live stream link for UNLV's contest at Wyoming will be posted at UNLVRebels.com. Saturday's bout is streamed in conjunction with the Mountain West Network.

HOME SWEET HOME: The UNLV Rebels have played 13 of their matches at home this season with 12 going in the book as victories. With two contests left to play in the Cox Pavilion, UNLV has the opportunity to tie and possibly break a pair of program marks. The 12 victories are one shy of the 13 notched by the 2006 and 2007 squads, while the six Mountain West triumphs are two short of the eight tallied in '07.

The Rebels concluded the 2014 campaign with a 3-1, home win over San Diego State. With help from that victory and 10 straight to begin this year, UNLV had won 11 straight going into its match with Boise State on Halloween. One more in the left column would push the streak to 12 and tie the program's mark for consecutive home wins, but the Broncos didn't allow the feat to occur. Coincidentally, the last time the Scarlet & Gray had lost at home had been to BSU on Nov. 22, 2014.

Despite the loss on Halloween to Boise State, UNLV has won 16 of its past 18 played inside the friendly confines of Cox Pavilion.
