Nov. 23, 2015 2015 UNLV Volleyball Weekly Notes - Week 14
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels close out the 2015 regular season Tuesday evening against the Fresno State Bulldogs at 6:00 pm in the Cox Pavilion. UNLV comes into the contest sitting in fifth place in the Mountain West with an 8-9 record. With a win, the Rebels have the possibility of tying for fourth with New Mexico, who is 9-8 with one Conference match remaining. FS, on the other hand, is eighth in the league with a 6-11 mark.
Prior to Tuesday's bout, the volleyball program will recognize its two outgoing seniors, Ceannia Kincade and Taylor Price.
LOOKIN' LIVE ON THE WORLDWIDE WEB: Tuesday night's match between UNLV and Fresno State will be streamed live in conjunction with the Mountain West Network. In addition, live stats for the contest will be available with both it and the steam link accessible at UNLVRebels.com.
HOME SWEET HOME: The UNLV Rebels have played 14 of their matches at home this season with 12 going in the book as victories. With one left to play in the Cox Pavilion, UNLV has the opportunity to tie the 2006 and 2007 squads for the most home victories in a single season with 13.
The Rebels concluded the 2014 campaign with a 3-1, home win over San Diego State. With help from that victory and 10 straight to begin this year, UNLV had won 11 straight going into its match with Boise State on Halloween. One more in the left column would push the streak to 12 and tie the program's mark for consecutive home wins, but the Broncos didn't allow the feat to occur. Coincidentally, the last time the Scarlet & Gray had lost at home had been to BSU on Nov. 22, 2014.
Despite the loss on Halloween to Boise State and another last week versus Colorado State, UNLV has won 16 of its past 19 played inside the friendly confines of Cox Pavilion.
THE NUMBERS ARE IN: With 13 weeks of volleyball in the books, the NCAA released its weekly installment of national statistics Monday, Nov. 23, and the UNLV Rebels are ranked in the top 100 as a team on three occasions. In addition, four members of the Rebels are listed individually in a total of six categories.
UNLV's highest ranking is in team total blocks (308.5), which is the 11th-best in the country. The team is also ranked 17th in blocks per set (2.83) and 71st and opponent hitting percentage (.182)
Ashley Owens, Alexis Patterson and Carly Riehl are in a pair of categories apiece. Owens sits 13th in total blocks (152) and 15th in blocks per set (1.46). Patterson is 98th in total assists (1,051) and 114th in assists per set (9.64). Carly Riehl is 83rd in digs per set (4.58) and 88th in total digs (499).
Bree Hammel is 122nd in blocks per set (1.09).
IT'S WRITTEN IN PENCIL FOR NOW: The UNLV Rebels have four current members of their squad ranked in the program's career record book.
Alex Patterson has gone from eighth at the start of the season into sole possession of fifth place with a career tally of 2,222 assists.
Bree Hammel sits second in hitting efficiency (.307), while coming in seventh in both total blocks (293) and assisted blocks (252). Hammel is also eighth in solo blocks (41).
Recently, Ceannia Kincade and Carly Riehl cracked the top-10 in assisted blocks and digs, respectively. Kincade is 10th overall in assisted blocks (211), while Riehl is ninth in digs (871).
In the single-season records, Ashley Owens sits third in both total blocks (152) and assisted blocks (138), while Riehl is fourth in digs (499) and Hammel is eighth in hitting (.321).
ONE MORE FOR 500: UNLV volleyball head coach Cindy Fredrick needs one more victory to claim her 500th at the NCAA Division I level. Fredrick entered the 2015 campaign with 484 DI wins with 89 coming at UNLV, 278 at Washington State (1989-2003), 86 at Weber State (1985-88) and 46 more at Iowa (2004-07).
Fredrick hit the 500-win milestone for career triumphs last year with a 3-0 win at Utah State (Nov. 19). Helping her to that figure were 17 wins she amassed at Luther College (DIII) in 2010.
