Nov. 4, 2015

2015 UNLV Volleyball Weekly Notes - Week 11

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels venture to the northern portion of the Silver State and to America's Finest City for a pair of volleyball matches this week. UNLV, who sits fifth in the Mountain West standings with a 6-5 mark, will square off with in-state rival Nevada, Reno Thursday evening (6:30 pm) before venturing to face San Diego State two days later at 6:00 pm.

Both UNR and SDSU are 4-8 in Conference play and sit tied with San Jose State for eighth place.

This multi-match trip will be the last for the Scarlet & Gray this season, as the squad will play only once more on the road - a Nov. 21 tussle at Wyoming - and four more times inside the friendly confines of the Cox Pavilion.

LOOKIN' LIVE ON THE WORLDWIDE WEB: The UNLV Rebels will have live statistics available for both of their matches this week. In addition, Thursday night's contest at Nevada, Reno will be streamed live in conjunction with the Mountain West Network. Links to live stats as well as video can be found at UNLVRebels.com.

GOVERNOR'S SERIES SHOWDOWN: The UNLV Rebels and Nevada, Reno Wolf Pack will close out their two-match set in volleyball Thursday at the Virginia Street Gym. UNLV won this season's previous meeting held in Las Vegas on Nov. 5, in three sets. In fact, the Rebels have won 13 straight - six of which have occurred in Reno - over the Wolf Pack dating back to the 2006 campaign.

Additionally, three points towards the 2015-16 standings for the Governor's Series presented by NV Energy and Barrick Gold are on the line in Thursday night's match. Currently, UNLV leads UNR by three points, 6-3, with the former claiming points for football and women's soccer, while the latter had a better finish at the Mountain West's Cross Country Championships.

The Governor's Series is formal head-to-head athletic and academic challenge between UNLV and UNR. The Rebels have won the Series three consecutive years dating back to its inception for the 2012-13 year.

WAITIN' ON THE SIDELINES: Following the UNLV Rebels pair of road matches this week, the team will return to Las Vegas for three straight matches beginning with a bout with New Mexico on Nov. 12. UNLV will also square off against Air Force on Nov. 14 and #15 Colorado State on Nov. 18. Each match of the homestand is scheduled for a 6:00 pm first serve.
