March 27, 2015 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV volleyball team kicks off its spring schedule Saturday with four matches at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Ariz. This weekend's trip is the first of two the Rebels will make this spring with the other being a visit to Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles on April 25. The Scarlet & Gray will host two consecutive dates in April with the first scheduled for the 11th and the other on the 18th.
Participating in Saturday's action in Tucson will be the UTEP Miners, New Mexico State Aggies, Arizona Wildcats and a squad comprised of Arizona alumna.
"The schedule this spring is very competitive," said head coach Cindy Fredrick. "We'll be playing matches against Pac-12 teams as well as other top programs. This is such a good preparation for us for the fall, as it gives us a measuring stick of where we are and where we need to go."
When the Rebels host on April 11, the Dixie State Red Storm and Southern Utah Thunderbirds as well as an outfit of Rebel alumna to the Cox Pavilion. One week later - April 18, UNLV will welcome the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks to Las Vegas for one-on-one competition.
The spring slate concludes April 25 in L.A., when LMU plays host to UNLV, Arizona, Fresno State, Northridge, San Diego, San Diego State, UCLA, UC Irvine, UC Riverside and Point Loma Nazarene.
The Scarlet & Gray, who are coming off a remarkable season that saw the 2014 team rewrite the program's single-season record book in overall (26) and Mountain West (14) victories, will be led this spring by Bree Hammel and Alexis Patterson. The former garnered AVCA Division I All-Pacific Region Honorable Mention as well as Mountain West All-Conference status, while the latter was an All-MW performer, too.
Including Hammel and Patterson, UNLV has 13 student-athletes on the spring roster. Alyssa Wing and Ceannia Kincade are also returning starters from the '14 edition that helped the squad to a third-place finish in league play.
