MW All-Stars Take Third At Global Challenge

Tuesday's Results: vs. USA JNT | vs. BIP Midwest

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The Mountain West All-Star Team finished third overall at the 2015 European Global Challenge in Pula, Croatia. The MW squad, which went 6-2 overall, defeated BIP Midwest, 2-0 (25-11, 25-20) in the third-place match Thursday afternoon.

The MW found itself in that third-place match after it lost in the semifinals to the USA Junior National Team by a 3-0 decision (25-18, 25-21, 26-24) after advancing through tourney play with 3-0 victories over the Hungary Junior B National Team and Nova KBM Branik Juniors (Slovenia) Wednesday.

Against BIP Midwest, the Scarlet & Gray's own Bree Hammel and Alexis Patterson had a hand in helping the MW All-Stars to Thursday's win. The former contributed five points off of two kills, two blocks and one ace, while the latter added two kills and two aces.

In the bout with the USA JNT, Patterson led the duo with seven points with three kills, three blocks and an ace, while Hammel registered five points with four kills and a block.

Joining Hammel and Patterson in Europe are fellow 2014 All-MW Team selections Kaitlyn Oliver (Boise State/MW Newcomer of the Year), Maddy O'Donnell (Boise State), Adriana Culbert (Colorado State) and Julia Warren (New Mexico. The remainder of the roster is made up of Cassidy Denny (Colorado State), Lyndsey Anderson (Nevada, Reno), Devanne Sours (New Mexico), Emma Fuzie (San Diego State), Tyanna Roy (San Jose State) and Rachel Gale (Utah State).

New Mexico's Jeff Nelson, the 2010 MW Coach of the Year, served as the team's head coach, while Air Force's Marc Swindle was an assistant.
