July 24, 2015 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV volleyball program had eight of its own recognized for classroom success by the Mountain West. Those eight student-athletes - a program-best - earned the MW Scholar-Athlete Award with six of those previously named to the Fall 2014 Academic All-Mountain West Team in February.
Allison Davies paced this year's recipients with her fourth straight MW Scholar-Athlete Award. Both Carly Riehl and Sadie Stutzman were both tabbed for the second time, while Madison Harper, Ashley Owens, Alexis Patterson, Alyssa Wing and Katlin Winters were newcomers to this honor.
The MW Scholar-Athlete Award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the Conference. Student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in a MW-sponsored sport.
Davies (four times), Winters (three), Kincade (two) and Riehl (two) were repeat performers on the Fall Academic All-MW Team. Bree Hammel, Owens, Patterson and Wing were chosen for the first time.
To be eligible for selection to the Academic Team, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic team at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletics team.
