LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The Rebel volleyball team (3-0) closed out its own UNLV Invitational Saturday night with a 3-0 sweep (25-16, 25-12, 26-24) of the Seton Hall Pirates (1-2) to claim first-place honors in the four-team, two-day tournament. The Scarlet & Gray's Ceannia Kincade earned MVP honors, while Bree Hammel, Alexis Patterson and Alyssa Wing joined her on the seven-member all-tourney team.

The start to the 2015 campaign marks the fourth instance in program history (1979, 1997, 1998 and 1999) that a squad has remained perfect through three matches. In fact, only today's feat is only the third instance (1979 and 1999) that it's happened at home.

UNLV outhit SHU by a differential of 241 points (.358 to .117) in the match. The Rebels began with a .276 hitting efficiency before their offense produced .500 and .306 efforts in the second and third frames, respectively. Overall, they notched 10 more kills (43-33) despite a disadvantage in attack attempts (95-103). The Pirates' offense committed 12 more errors (21-9) and topped out with a .143 average in the third set. In its first two sets, SHU was held to .107 and .091 outputs.

"I liked the energy the team brought to the match tonight," said UNLV head coach Cindy Fredrick. "We had more consistent play throughout with strong hitting, and our blocking was outstanding. Overall, we improved everything tonight."

Kincade led all attackers with a match-high 12 kills off a .478 hitting average (12-1-23) to go along with an assist and one ace. She produced defensively, as well, with seven digs and two total blocks (one solo).

Hammel and Patterson were influential on both sides of the court, too. The former had 10 kills, two assists, four digs and four assisted blocks to the latter's 31 assists, six kills, six assisted blocks and five digs.

Wing, who had five kills in the match, was impressive in the back row with 10 digs. She wasn't the only Rebel to record double digits in digs, as her teammate, Carly Riehl, led all players with 12.

The Rebels had 14.5 total team blocks with Ashley Owens â€" literally â€" having a hand in five of them (one solo and eight assisted â€" for a career-high nine).

The Pirates' Cherise Hennigan, who was the member of her team to make the all-tournament team, had a team-high 10 kills. Sophia Coffey and Tessa Fournier led the squad in assists (24) and digs (11), respectively.

SHU, Central Arkansas and Omaha tied for second place with identical 1-2 marks. Prior to the UNLV-SHU affair, Central Arkansas picked up its lone win in five sets over Omaha.

UNLV hits the road with a trip to the Little Apple â€" Manhattan, Kan. â€" next week. The Rebels will square off against California (8:00 am PT) and Green Bay (3:00 pm PT) Friday, Sept. 4, at Kansas State's Varney's Invitational. UNLV and host K-State will meet one day later at 11:30 am PT.
