Oct. 3, 2016 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - For the second time this season UNLV Volleyball's Alexis Patterson was recognized by the Mountain West for her play on the court. The Phoenix native was tabbed the Conference's Defensive Player of the Week after she helped the Rebels, who are 15-1 overall, maintain their perfect start (4-0) in league play with a pair of road victories at Fresno State and San Jose State. In September, Patterson was selected the MW's Offensive Player of the Week.
The junior setter registered a pair of double-doubles and led the team in assists (102), assists per set (10.20), digs (30) and digs per set (3.00) last week. She also threw down nine kills (0.90 kills per set) which translated to a team-high .389 hitting efficiency.
At FS, she combined 54 assists with 15 digs for the first double-double. She hit .625 with six kills and also had two assisted blocks and one ace.
Two days later at SJSU, she had a double-double that consisted of 48 assists and 15 digs. She nearly turned in a triple-double with help from a career-high eight total blocks (all assisted). She notched three kills and two aces in the win.
Her 15 digs in both matches equaled her previous best for that statistic.
In all, UNLV has had three different student-athletes selected for weekly recognition this season. Elsa Descamps (offensive) and Bree Hammel (defensive) earned All-MW status on August 29 while Patterson followed on September 12 and October 3.
The Scarlet & Gray returns home this week for a pair of MW bouts with foes from the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. The Wyoming Cowgirls and Colorado State Rams will visit the Cox Pavilion Thursday (6:00 pm) and Saturday (3:00 pm), respectively. All three squads -- UNLV (4-0), Wyoming (3-0) and CSU (3-0) -- enter the week undefeated through two weeks of MW action
