UNLV Falls to UC Santa Barbara 2-0

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV women's soccer faced a tough test in California, taking on an unbeaten UC Santa Barbara squad on the road on Sunday afternoon. The Rebels suffered their first shutout of the season, falling 2-0 to the Gauchos after UCSB used two first-half goals to gain a lead it wouldn't relinquish. With the loss, the Rebels move to 5-2-0 on the year, while the Gauchos improve to 7-0-0.

The first goal came in the 23rd minute off the foot of UCSB junior forward Amanda Ball, the seventh of the season for the Gauchos leading scorer. Ten minutes later, Shaelan Murison extended the UCSB lead to 2-0 after finding the net off a pass from Ashley Dean.

The Gauchos defense proved to be too much for the UNLV attack, as the Rebels were held scoreless for the first time this season. UCSB's back line and sophomore keeper Brittney Rogers have been hard to crack this season, giving up just two goals through the team's first seven games this season.

Michaela Morris and Georgia Kingman led the team in shots with two each on the day for UNLV, while Jordan Sallee and Jessie Clark combined for four saves in goal.

After two weekends on the road, the Rebels return home for two consecutive weekends, taking on CSU Bakersfield on Fri., Sept. 16 at 7 p.m., followed by Cal State Fullerton on Sun., Sept. 18 at 1 p.m., both at Peter Johann Memorial Field.

On Friday, the Rebels and Roadrunners will take the field for a special cause, wearing gold laces to support children and families affected by pediatric cancer. UNLV has partnered with GO4TheGoal on its "Lace Up 4 Cancer" campaign, with a portion of the proceeds of the purchased gold laces going directly to affected families. The Rebels will be accepting donations at the game and through an online campaign at https://donate.go4thegoal. org/UNLVWomensSoccer.
