Oct. 4, 2017 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV volleyball team heads back out on the road this week for two Mountain West matches, with stops in San Jose, California, and Reno. The Rebels begin their road trip Thursday night (6:00 pm) against the San Jose State Spartans. The trek will continue two days later - Saturday (1:00 pm) - against the Nevada, Reno Wolf Pack.
This will be the Scarlet & Gray's second trip in conference play, and it will carry a 4-13 overall record and 0-4 mark against MW opposition.
SJSU (11-4, 3-1 MW) enters the week riding a three-match winning streak and winners of four of its last five. The Spartans began conference play on the road at UNR with a 3-1 loss, but followed that with a trio of road wins at Air Force (3-2), San Diego State (3-2) and Fresno State (3-1).
UNR (4-12, 2-2 MW) will host New Mexico Thursday prior to Saturday's Silver State showdown with the Rebels. The Wolf Pack have lost two straight, both of which occurred last weekend on the road against FS and SDSU. In all, UNR has lost 11 of its last 13, with wins over SJSU and Air Force on September 19 and 21, respectively.
TUNE IN, WATCH & LISTEN: The UNLV volleyball team will have both of its matches this week streamed live online and free of charge via the Mountain West Network. A link to the video stream as well as live statistic links for both contests can be found at UNLVRebels.com.
KEEPING THE BAGS PACKED: The UNLV volleyball team has become far too familiar with playing away from Las Vegas and the Cox Pavilion since the middle of September. Including this week's matches at SJSU and UNR, the Rebels will have played seven of its last nine on the road, with three bouts at the Hoosier Classic in Bloomington, Indiana, and four more in Mountain West play. The two home contests took place last week, which were against Utah State and Boise State.
ON THE SIDELINE: With the conclusion of this week’s road trip, UNLV Volleyball will return to Las Vegas and the Cox Pavilion to host four matches in a two-week stretch. The homestand will begin with stops by Fresno State and San Diego State on October 12 and 14, respectively, and continue through the following week with visits from No. 24 Colorado State (October 19) and Wyoming (October 21).
GOVERNOR'S SERIES REKINDLED: The UNLV volleyball team and Nevada, Reno Wolf Pack kick off the 2017-18 Governor's Series presented by NV Energy and Barrick Gold Saturday in Reno. The Governor's Series is an all-encompassing head-to-head athletic and academic challenge between the Silver State's two NCAA Division I programs.
The Rebels had won four straight Governor's Series titles from 2012-13 through 2015-16 until the 2016-17 campaign finished in a 24-all tie. However, the Wolf Pack took possession of the rivalry trophy due to a technicality - a tiebreaker, as they claimed the famed Fremont Cannon with a win over UNLV in football.
